Málaga–Costa del Sol Airport

One of the oldest airports in Spain, Malaga opened on March 9th, 1919, with its first scheduled flight in September of that year. Up until the 1960s, the airport consisted of one runway, which was extended during the decade. A new terminal was also built then (it opened in 1968), and new equipment was installed. A second passenger terminal was added in 1972. What is today's Terminal 2 was completed in 1991, and in 1995 the old terminal was converted into a general aviation building. In 2004, a plan was hatched for the expansion of the airport, and as such, the terminal from the 1960s was demolished. On March 15th, 2010, the new Terminal 3 was completed and promptly inaugurated by King Juan Carlos of Spain. In September of that year, a railway station to Malaga began operations, providing a route to the airport by train. In May 2012, a second runway began operations.

The airport is located 8 km (5.0 mi) southwest of Málaga and 5 km (3.1 mi) north of Torremolinos.

• The general aviation terminal is also known as the private aviation terminal and is used for private aircraft.
• Malaga's original terminal and air traffic control tower now serves as a museum.
• Malaga airport became a military base during the Spanish Civil War, and while the military base has relocated west of the airport, they do still use the runways.
